Intermediate Rent FAQ's
Intermediate Rent - FAQ’s
What is Intermediate Rent?
Intermediate Rent is a new affordable private rental product for Northern Ireland, offering high quality housing to eligible lower income households at a significant discount (at least 20%) to market rents.
Where will the homes be?
We expect to deliver 300 homes in a number of separate projects in locations right across Northern Ireland.
Keep an eye on our website and social media channels which we will update regularly with news including details of the projects that we are working on.
Who can apply for an Intermediate Rent home?
Tenancies will be available to eligible households, based on income ceilings of £30k net for a single adult, and £40k net for two or more adult households.
When will the first homes be available?
We are currently working towards funding being in place by early 2026 with the first Intermediate Rent homes constructed and available within 12 months thereafter.
How do I apply for an Intermediate Rent home?
A new Intermediate Rent Lettings Policy will be agreed with DfC and will govern the application process. There is no waiting list and applications can only be made once each scheme is advertised. We will confirm how you can apply closer to the time.
How will the properties be advertised?
When the homes are nearing completion, we will advertise them through a range of familiar channels including our own website and social media channels, established property search websites, through local press and advertising boards and hoardings.
If I’m on the social housing waiting list or receive Housing Benefit, can I apply for an Intermediate Rent home?
Yes. Intermediate Rent may be the housing product for you.
Will the homes be ready to move into?
Yes, they will be painted throughout along with floor coverings (e.g. tiling / carpets) and window coverings. We will also provide white goods though we do not intend to furnish the homes.
How long will the Tenancies be?
Our intention is that Tenancies will be offered for five years, with an option to renew. They are not lifelong tenancies but offer a longer term housing option than most private rentals.
